JavaScript is what makes web pages do things -- respond to clicks, validate a form, update content without reloading. It's also a real general-purpose language that runs outside the browser (Node.js), which is why it shows up everywhere in this course catalog.

This course teaches the language itself. Making it talk to actual web pages is the focus of JavaScript DOM & APIs, right after this one.
